About the studio
Try Glassblowing
-
We’ll do our best to work with you and your guests. The cost for each additional person varies by workshop. For instance, Option 1 would be $297 (plus tax) for two people plus $149 (plus tax) for the third person. We add some more time to accommodate the third person.
-
-
For various reasons, ash-related work is not done during workshops. If you’d like to discuss having a memorial piece created, please email ask@fascappleglass.com

We work diligently to ensure you take home what you make–98% of pieces turn out just fine. Occasionally, the method and factors involved in working with hot glass will prompt a single piece to break. It is glass. We can’t remake or replace what you create.
-
-
It’s absolutely doable. Learn more.

SHOPPING AND CARE
This information is subject to these Terms and Conditions.
Large or small, our pieces are created by hand and are meant to last generations when treated with care and used properly.
-
In general, glass does NOT survive dramatic temperature changes. For instance, pouring hot tea into handblown glass, popping it into the freezer or burning a candle flame close to the base of a glass can cause pieces to fracture or break.
-
Glass magnifies light and pieces set at certain angles in direct sunlight can present a potential fire hazard.
-
NONE of our glass is suited for use in a microwave or oven. Do NOT use it in this or any similar appliance.
-
Remove rings before handling glass art. Otherwise you can scratch the surface of the piece. Or wear cloth gloves when handling your art pieces.
-
Avoid knocking pieces of glass together as it can be damaging.
-
Pick up a piece with two hands–one on either side. Avoid sliding it across a surface to prevent scratching the base.
-
When you receive your purchased piece, do the final stage of unwrapping on a soft surface.
-
If you need to wrap a piece of textured matte and coated glass, please wrap in a foam sheet first and then apply the bubble wrap.
-
Glasses
-
While our glasses are dishwasher safe, handwashing in lukewarm water is best. We recommend placing glasses in the top rack of the dishwasher.
-
Citrus or citric acid-based cleaners are not recommended as they can damage the glass.
-
To avoid watermarks, towel dry handwashed pieces.
Original works, home décor and lighting
Shiny surface:-
Clean with a gentle glass cleaner and soft or microfiber cloth. Alternatively, for smaller pieces, follow the handwashing directions provided above.
Matte surface with coated finish (with or without texture) on all or part of the piece:
-
Gently blow any excess particles off the piece and wipe with a clean microfiber cloth. Do NOT use a spray glass cleaner on any matte surface.
-
Unless otherwise specified, if, over the years, you want to refresh the finish, apply Aquaphor (or equivalent) product and wipe off.
-
If portions of the piece have a shiny surface, then use a microfibre cloth or spray glass cleaner on a cloth and wipe those areas, carefully avoiding the matte finished surface.
If you have any concerns about caring for your glass, do contact us at ask@fascappleglass.com-

We do a lot of commission work for clients and have found it makes most sense for both parties when the value of the piece is $500 or more. Since it is a custom piece, there is no “guaranteed same-day delivery,” rather it depends on factors such as your wishes, time frame, stage of project, colour, materials, creative development and studio schedule. As part of our client conversations, we discuss key points in the development process and the completion date.

Currently, we do not.

This varies based on the size and type of piece. Smaller work will be encased in protective layers and shipping strength boxes. Larger works may require custom crating such as being double-boxed in double-layered cardboard with additional protective layers or foam padded wooden crates. Repairs
-
People ask if we can repair bruised and broken glass pieces. The answer is generally no, given considerations such as the type of repair, whether our glass matches yours and whether it makes financial sense for you and us. If there’s someone else better suited to doing the repair, we’ll refer you to them. For instance, we don’t work with stained glass or glass jewelry.

Rent
-
Weigh your colour bar before your slot start. We’ll note it.
-
At the end of your slot, put any leftover colour bar in the annealer alongside your work.
-
We’ll weigh your leftover colour separately and get your net colour number. Forget to weigh in or put the leftover colour in the annealer, we won’t worry about it either.
-
-
Using a whiff of frit, then it’s your choice whether to weigh in or not.
-
If using a material amount, then please use the metal dishes on the filing cabinet to weigh your frit. We’ll note the numbers in the binder.
-
When your slot is done, weigh the remaining frit in the dishes and that will be used to calculate your net frit number.
-
Forget to weigh in and weigh out, no problem, we won’t worry about it either.
-
-
It’s up to the two folks in the slot. One option: Split the slot down the middle and ask for a second pipe bucket and that your glass weight be recorded separately. After the first two hours, artist number one quickly sweeps up their scrap, adds it to their waste bucket, and pipes are switched over to the new bucket. Bucket number one is put by the weigh stand.

-
Since these are generally multi-day reservations, we request a 50% deposit to secure the booking. The final invoice will be provided prior to work pickup.
-
-
Your payment secures your spot in the hot shop and cold-working room (as included and extra). Monthly rent is due the first day of each month. Pay by e-transfer using accounting@fascappleglass.com or credit card.
-
-
The sooner you let us know the better. If 48 hours or earlier, we’ll work to rebook your slot(s) within the current month. If you’ve reserved multiple blocks of time during the busy season, such as November and December, and need to cancel, we’ll discuss what can be rebooked and/or forfeited (no refund). You always have the option of trying to find a person to take your slot.
-
For regular renters, we know “life happens” and so if you need to cancel within 24 hours of your slot, we’ll credit one such cancellation four times in a calendar year.
-
Cancel within 24 hours and have already used your ”life happens” credits for the year, then you forfeit your slot. No rescheduling, credit, or refund. If you can find someone to replace you, let us know.
-
No notice/no show, you forfeit the slot—with no rescheduling, credit, or refund.
-
If you’ll be away for an extended period and want to keep your day/time slot, here’s an option. Pay $35 per slot on a weekly basis to ensure your slot is there when you return. Example: Reserving a Thursday morning weekly slot for a four-week month = $35 x 4 = $140
-
If fascapple glass needs to cancel due to weather, power outages or equipment breakdown or maintenance, we’ll reschedule your slot or apply a credit to the next month.
-
-
We are NOT responsible for breakage that occurs in the annealer or on the shelf.
-
-
One month. After that time, pieces will be recycled or thrown away. This is not our idea of a good time, so please ensure you or a friend take your creations home.
-
-
Since we’re mainly a glassblowing studio, casting projects are considered on an individual basis. Share your thoughts with us well in advance and we’ll do our best to help make it happen. We’re not a torchworking shop, but we’re happy to refer you to others more familiar with studios that may be able to help.
